An elegant residential wine cellar is a great investment for serious wine enthusiasts, as this provides them with a climate-controlled space where they can store and organize their liquid collection. A seldom-used space in your home can be converted into a stunning and fully customized wine storage area, where you can manage and display different types of wine.
Let’s take a look at this recently completed closet conversion custom wine cellar project in Phoenix, Arizona. The room measures approximately 7 ft. wide, 5 ft. deep, and 9 ft. high, and has a total storage capacity of 812 wine bottles.
The wine closet design features a split panel glass door, a Premium Redwood wine rack design, and a fully ducted wine cellar refrigeration system by Wine Guardian.
Dual-Paned Barolo Glass Wine Cellar Door
This Phoenix, Arizona wine cellar is fitted with a split panel dual pane glass door made from Cherry wood.
To ensure a tight seal, the entry door is weather-stripped on all sides and includes a threshold at the base.
The dual-pane glass feature provides a sneak peek into the interior of the wine cellar space.
Additionally, dual pane products provide better insulation compared to single pane, as well as reduce condensation and outside noise.
Premium Redwood Wine Racks
Scottsdale Custom Wine Cellars Builders Phoenix Arizona combined various types of wine rack designs to create a stunning display showcase, as well as maximize available space. Premium redwood is the wood variety of choice for the wine racking. This type of lumber is not only naturally beautiful but also highly resistant to decay.
The Premium Redwood wine rack design for the wine cellar Phoenix, Arizona project includes single bottle storage, horizontal display storage, high reveal display rows, diamond bin cases, and rectangular bins. The wooden wine racks come in a dark walnut stain that blends exceptionally well with the unique flooring.
In the center of the wine cellar is an arched tabletop area, that features a beautiful art piece, with puck lighting.
It is flanked on either side by individual bottle openings, that can fit standard-size wine bottles.
Down below are solid diamond bin cases, for bulk storage. Additional storage for 750 ml bottles is provided right above the arched area.
On the sidewalls of the wine cellar in Phoenix, Arizona, one can see mirroring wine rack styles of label forward displays, rectangular bin storage to maximize capacity, as well as more openings for single bottle storage.
Rectangular bins are an excellent way to consolidate various wine types into different groups. They can also store a variety of bottle sizes.
Label forward displays store bottles in a horizontal orientation that promotes ease of bottle identification and selection. Horizontal placement of bottles also helps keep the cork in continuous contact with the wine, to keep it moist, thus ensuring its sealing quality.
High reveal display storage runs the entire length of the left side wall, down to the right side wall of the wine cellar.
Display rows with a high reveal feature tilt bottles at a 15-degree angle that allows for easy product recognition while maintaining continuous cork and wine contact, that prevents the former from drying out.
To illuminate the entire display area, the wine cellar builders installed dimmable LED lighting systems.
Wine Cellar Cooling by Wine Guardian
The wine cellar’s refrigeration system is a fully ducted ¼ ton cooling unit by Wine Guardian. Wine Guardian fully ducted wine cellar refrigeration systems are self-contained units that can be installed up to 25 ducted feet away from the wine storage space.
For this particular wine cellar installation project, Scottsdale Custom Wine Cellars Phoenix Arizona placed the unit in the attic space right above the ceiling. The wine cellar refrigeration system sits on a platform with a drain pan underneath.
In order for wines to age to their full potential, the wine storage temperature must be around 55 degrees Fahrenheit, with a relative humidity of about 60 to 75 percent. The wine cellar refrigeration system from Wine Guardian has the capacity to maintain these ideal levels.
There are two, 8” round ducts coming off the supply and returning going into the wine cellar. The hot air exhaust is ducted to the outside and fresh air is also ducted to the unit from outside the attic.
The power for this type of cooling unit is a 110v, 20 amp dedicated circuit. When installed outdoors, the equipment must have protective housing to safeguard it against the elements.
