Wine Closet Design: Small Wine Cellar Renovation Project
A striking wine closet design will transform a space into a functional wine room with the help of experts.
Wine room conversion is becoming more popular in Phoenix, including Glendale, Paradise Valley, and Fountain Hills. Whether you have an unused space in the kitchen, under the stairs, end of a hallway, wine bar area, or living area, you can convert it into a stunning display of your collection. You will find many home wine cellar ideas on the web and provide pictures to your builder or contractor.
Designing and installing refrigerated wine cellars requires the help of an experienced and knowledgeable builder. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars, a trusted builder of home wine cellars in Phoenix, has been in the construction industry for many years. They offer innovative wine storage solutions tailored to every budget. With careful planning, they always make sure all the requirements of their clients are met.
In one of their wine cellar conversion projects, they renovated a small wine cellar in a condominium to accommodate the growing collection of the owners. The original wine storage closet of the owners had three doors and was located in an open-plan living/dining area. It could no longer accommodate their growing collection, so they sought the help from Blue Grouse Wine Cellars. The team of experts reconfigured the space and created a wine closet design to achieve a larger bottle capacity.
Before installing the wine racks, they installed the correct insulation and vapor barrier to ensure the wine room could achieve the ideal wine storage environment.
Custom Wine Rack Features Incorporated into the Wine Closet Design
Designing wine racks can be both fun and challenging. In this project, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars incorporated beautiful racking styles into the closet wine cellar design. The features added were based on the client’s personal preferences and needs. This wine closet design was carefully thought out, resulting in an elegant wine display.
Some homeowners do not want any visible equipment inside their wine cellars. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars added a shaker-style cabinet with a tabletop at the center of the back wall. The bottom section has a door that hides the wine cooling unit to create a seamless look. The small tabletop can be used for serving and decanting wine.
There is a rectangular opening at the top with two levels of glass shelving for additional storage space for a few bottles and a display area for a few wine accessories. The individual wine racks were added on both sides of the cabinet.
The left and right walls have a mirrored racking. Blue Grouse Wine Cellars included individual wine racks at the top section, a high-reveal display row in the middle, and diamond bins at the bottom. The end racking on the sidewalls consists of a floor-to-ceiling horizontal display rack that displays the bottles with the labels facing out. Guests can read the wine labels in this racking without entering the wine cellar.
Custom Glass Wine Cellar Doors for an Elegant Closet Wine Cellar
Since the owners wanted their beautiful collection to be visible from the outside, a solid wooden door was not a good option. The Blue Grouse team installed double seamless glass doors affixed to a fixed glass wall on the sides.
They utilized thermally insulated glass panels to prevent heat transfer through the doors. Correct glass door insulation will help regulate the conditions in refrigerated wine cellars and reduce the risk of wine cooling system breakdowns and wine storage issues.
They also equipped the door with weather stripping around the edges to prevent air leakage to and from the closet wine cellar. Incorrect installation of doors or a lack of insulation will cause humidity levels to rise, moisture to build up, and the wine cooling unit to work harder to achieve the ideal conditions inside the wine room.
Reliable Wine Cellar Cooling System
Blue Grouse Wine Cellars performed a heat load calculation to determine the right size of wine cooling system suitable for the closet wine cellar. They installed a CW30-W water-cooled cooling unit from ONAM. This water-cooled technology gives the refrigeration system the ability to expel heat through water rather than air. When the heat is generated by the cooling unit, it is transformed into water and runs into the drain line.
The wall-mounted electronic thermostat has a digital display for convenience in monitoring and regulating the conditions inside the wine room. In addition to its powerful performance, the ONAM wine cooling unit also offers installation flexibility, allowing the unit to be concealed within the racking. No room is required for heat dissipation or ventilation.
Wine Cellar Lighting System
The lighting system for refrigerated wine cellars must also be installed by a professional because it also have a significant impact on the overall appeal and functionality of wine rooms. Master builders understand that wine is sensitive to heat and light exposure. Therefore, they must be stored in a wine cellar where the lights do not emit UV rays and emit only a minimal amount of heat.
Blue Grouse Wine Cellars and most builders recommend LED lights because they are safe and consume less energy compared with other types of lighting systems. The top of the horizontal rows and the rectangular opening is illuminated dramatically. Spotlights were installed in the ceiling to provide an ample amount of light for maneuvering around the wine room and reading the wine labels.
